Kent Roach

Kent Roach is Prichard Wilson Chair in Law and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. He has acted pro bono as counsel for Aboriginal Legal Services in landmark cases recognizing systemic discrimination against Indigenous people in the Canadian justice system. He acted pro bono for Innocence Canada in the systemic phase of the Inquiry into Guy Paul Morin’s wrongful conviction and as director of research for the Goudge Commission that examined a series of wrongful convictions including of Indigenous persons on the basis of flawed forensic evidence. He also worked with Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission on the harmful multi-generational impacts of placing Indigenous children in residential schools.
