Chad Readler is the Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice. He was formerly a partner at Jones Day, focusing on appellate litigation. He served as the pro bono coordinator for the firm's Columbus office, participating in nearly 100 pro bono matters. He argued and won the habeas case of McQuiggin v. Perkins in the United States Supreme Court in 2013. Chad has also won several other habeas cases in the federal circuit courts, including the innocence case of Hattie Tanner in 2017. He is speaking at the conference in his personal capacity, and not on behalf of the Department of Justice.
