Healing Through Writing: How to Use Literature and Writing to Heal from Trauma (exonerees only)

Location: Louis XVI Room
Date: Sat, March 24
Time: 9:15 AM - 10:30 AM

Exoneree Amanda Knox, novelist Christopher Robinson, and I will run a writing workshop for exonerees; this is not the usual "telling your story" form of workshop, rather, we will present exercises aimed at showing exonerees how to use personal writing for healing from the trauma of their experiences of injustice. The goal is to give exonerees personalized tools for accessing, expressing, and dealing with the difficult emotions arising from their harmful experiences via writing (poetry, lyrics, stories, journals and blog posts) and the reading of literature, primarily poetry. The workshop will be hands-on and very interactive, and will offer many opportunities for questions from workshop participants. We will also discuss publication opportunities, as each of the three presenters is a published writer.
